Creating Your Creatives

A creative is an original ideas that is created. Media will have many creatives.

SUMMARY

  • For an e-commerce business, there will be many creatives for each of your products.
  • For each creative, intellectual property ownership and infringement will be a large issue.

TYPES OF CREATIVES

Creating your creatives for e-commerce deals with videos, images, sound, manuals, websites, and design. It is important for an owner to protect their creative. In addition to protecting a creative, it is also just as important to make sure you are using other creatives properly.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

Once an owner creates a creative, the creative will already have some intellectual property rights. The main intellectual property involved is copyright. See INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY.

When putting creatives on the internet, there may be many other businesses that will want to take shortcuts by taking someone else’s videos and make them as their own. If another individual takes someone else’s creative without permission, they may be liable for copyright infringement. Traditionally, an owner goes through court to enforce their rights. Now, many platforms are providing ways to enforce the rights through the platform, usually by a takedown notice.

Just as important to know your own right, when making creatives, the creator should make sure they are not infringing on someone else’s right. As stated above, a creator should make sure they are not using someone else’s creatives without permission.
